Hi Graham,

I enjoyed a lot of your quotes. What you say about the unreliability of newspapers also applies to those Christian Mags by Barnabus, Tear Fund etc. They never quite get it right about N Nigeria.

My best friend in Maiduguri is Dr A. Haruna but there are dozens of good friends there now. If you ever need a contact go to our church site at
www.lighthousebaptistchurch.org.uk
and email me from there.

Joseph has left a mangled AOL email so I should not have passed this comment but it is such a good example of the lack of seriousness I was complaining about that I have passed it through moderation.

Since the Roman thought police have specialised in slander of "heretics" from the beginning the vague accusations in this comment are models of the species. The "errors" are of course readings of which the Curia disapprove. And the pompous claim to represent the believers of 1600 years is also typical.

The resort to the worst ad hominem slurs comes from the pride and partisanship which characterised More himself. Well done, Joseph, you are a credit to your tradition.

Tyndale was known as only a mediocre scholar and had gained a reputation as a priest of unorthodox opinions and a violent temper. He was infamous for insulting the clergy, from the pope down to the friars and monks, and had a genuine contempt for Church authority. In fact, he was first tried for heresy in 1522, three years before his translation of the New Testament was printed. His own bishop in London would not support him in this cause.

Finding no support for his translation from his bishop, he left England and came to Worms, where he fell under the influence of Martin Luther. There in 1525 he produced a translation of the New Testament that was swarming with textual corruption. He willfully mistranslated entire passages of Sacred Scripture in order to condemn orthodox Catholic doctrine and support the new Lutheran ideas. The Bishop of London claimed that he could count over 2,000 errors in the volume (and this was just the New Testament).

When you hold up that Bible in your hands, Remember your are accepting 1,600 years of Catholic guardianship of Sacred Scripture

Hi Incon,

Yes, it must be the same lady because all the other women drivers I know are so excellent.

To be fair, if Princess Di had been driving I don't suppose she would have been doing 95 mph in a Paris underpass.

Hi Semper
I know that woman, or rather i have had the misfortune to see her drive. I was behind her in a queue just before Christmas. She expertly managed to stop in a very long queue of traffic in the only place possible that she could completely block a junction and so snarl up all the traffic coming the other way. With my best chivalry hat on, I left her ample room to reverse in a straight line and so unblock the junction. Unfortunately she was unable to do this, three failed attempts at a straight reverse later - which way do you turn the wheel to go straight! - she stalled. Luckily, the driver of the van she had blocked was overcome not with road rage but uncontrolled laughter. I then followed her - in second - along a deserted road for about 400 yards before she abandoned/parked her car at the same garage I was going to.
I hope your site is not read by too many of those conspiracy theory people, there may make a link with overtaking, death and Diana somewhere........

I think that those who are good at it should do it. Not everyone is good at proclamation or personal evangelism. Some who think they are good at it aren't, others surprise themselves when they try.

And I think regular, faithful church attendance is a better witness than most people realise.

I am not sure about programmes for anything, including evangelism.
Churches seem over-programmed generally.

And our culture is very suspicious of organised proselytising or pre-programmed witnessing. Personal testimony which grows out of personal conviction is more powerful

Hi Semper
Thank you for your reply.
You have taught us consistently over the years that it is the whole church that witnesses and proclaims not just the 'paid ones' or elders. So, I hear of and expect to hear of individual members of the church telling their friends and work colleagues about Jesus. From Sunday they are being salt and light when they do this, do you think that this is enough or that the church plural should have a programme of proclamation and witnessing about Jesus, outside of the activity that goes on within it's four walls? i.e street work, door to door etc
